Professional Experience

Ken began his law career in 1976 concentrating in the general practice of employment and labor law including, but not limited to, collective bargaining, union management relations, NLRA, Title VII and Illinois Human Rights Act. From 1978 to 1985, he served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Labor, enforcing statutes such as FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) and ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act). In 1985, he went into private practice with Ariel Weisberg. Then in 1987, he founded his own law practice, Kenneth A. Henry, Attorney at Law..

Today, Ken represents employers as well as employees in employment and labor relations law and also practices real estate law, state and federal litigation, and general corporate and commercial law for small and mid-sized businesses. He is also highly experienced in the arbitration/mediation field, as both an advocate and an arbitrator or mediator.

Bar Admissions

A member of the Illinois Bar, Ken is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Trial Bar and General Bar), the United States Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Federal Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Education

Ken received a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he graduated with distinction. He received his law degree from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law. Ken has done post-graduate work at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management and the John Marshall School of Law. Ken is also certified as a mediator by the Center for Conflict Resolution.

Teaching and Instruction

Ken regularly participates in continuing legal education sessions as a lecturer and writer on various topics. He also judges local and national trial advocacy competitions for law students. As an instructor at the IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law, Ken taught advanced legal research and writing in labor and employment law. He also has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago, School of Public Health, teaching labor relations and employment law.

Community and Civic Involvement

Giving back to his community has always been important to Ken, and he has devoted considerable time to civic activities in his home town of Highland Park, Illinois. Ken is currently serving on the Board of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce. He is also currently serving on the City of Highland Park Plan and Design Commission.  His past community service has included:

  • Highland Park Chamber of Commerce (Chair from March, 2020 through December 2022)
  • Citizens’ Task Force Committee, North Shore School District 112. 
  • City of Highland Park Zoning Board of Appeals (including 2-year terms as both chair and vice-chair)
